Arbutus honey from Spain. The bitterest honey on earth, yet with notes of coffee and a creamy texture.

The arbutus, or Strawberry tree flowers in the Autumn from September to January. It also produces its fruit at the same time, round rough skinned fruit with a soft fleshy inside. They taste like a cross between lychees and damsons. As the flowers are small white bell shaped, they need the warmer autumn days to produce enough nectar for the honeybees to reach. Most commonly found for honey production in Spain, Sardinia, Greece and southern Italy. The tree is also native to Britain, often planted in suburban streets. Rarely found as a british honey due to the timing of the flowers and the british weather at that time, not condusive for bees to fly and collect nectar!
